Simple is good – Jim Henson
I think this quote from Jim Henson is great for nearly every area of our lives! My life could use a “simple” overhaul! Often I have so much to accomplish each day, I cannot fit it all in. No matter how I use my Franklin-Covey time management skills! Something seems to always suffer or be forgotten or pushed off until the next day.
Last weekend my family went with a group of friends from church on a fabulous retreat to scenic Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana. Everything around me seemed to point to getting back to the basics, from the blazing fire…
to the beauty of wind blowing the Spanish moss in the stately cypress trees….
to a pelican sailing effortlessly just inches from the water…
to the quiet sailing of boats on the sparkling, dancing water…
to a monument of old cypress tree stumps aging in the warm sun.
Everything was beautiful…and SIMPLE. Nature did not need bright lights or flashy Pantone colors to be elegant and aesthetic. It was perfect in its simplicity. They all are clean-lined and uncluttered.
I love what Antoine de Saint-Exupéry says:
Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but where there is nothing left to take away.
I plan to evaluate not only my daily life, but also my artwork by the beauty and simplicity that God gave me to enjoy.
Simple is better.
